Interface designed and commissioned mechanical
and electrical systems at InFocus Global Headquarters,
a Class A building that met Portland General
Electric’s standards for an “Earth
Advantage”® building. Optimal energy
savings and employee comfort were paramount
during the design process. Employees helped
produce a lighting design that uses less than
80 percent than that allowed by code. On the
mechanical side, Interface designed an energy-efficient
variable air volume HVAC system that recovers
plenum heat for space heating needs. The outside
air ventilation system is monitored and controlled
with airflow stations placed away from pollutant
sources, ensuring that indoor air quality standards
are consistently maintained, as well as CO2
sensors to control over-ventilation, which wastes
energy. High efficiency air filters were also
used instead of standard filters. Other energy-saving
mechanical features include low-flow plumbing
fixtures to reduce water consumption by 15 percent.
To ensure its systems were installed correctly
and would function as designed, Interface commissioned
the building before and after occupancy. In
commissioning this building, Interface made
several adjustments to the HVAC control and
lighting systems and fine-tuned balancing to
improve comfort conditions and reduce energy
consumption.
