The Pathway to a Net Zero Commercial Kitchen: The Commons at Chatham University Eden Hall

Thursday, May 3rd AT 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM | Oregon Convention Center: Room 204

Chatham Commons is part of the University’s new Eden Hall campus located in Richland Township, Pennsylvania approximately 20 miles from Pittsburg. The project is targeting net zero energy, including all kitchen process energy, as well as a LEED Platinum certification. Chatham University’s new Eden Hall Campus is targeting a campus-wide net zero energy policy. Participants will learn how an integrated design team investigated every detail of the way the commercial kitchen consumes energy, including cooking equipment, cooking fuels, and even menu selection, with the goal of delivering a net positive building. This design process delivered one of the world’s first net zero energy commercial kitchens.

Join Earth and Space Scientist’s Brave Exploration of Energy Positive Retrofit for their DC Headquarters

Friday, May 4th AT 3:15 PM - 4:45 PM | Oregon Convention Center: Room 204

American Geophysical Union (AGU), the largest organization of Earth and Space Scientists, including leaders in climate science, take on the first net-positive energy retrofit project in Washington, DC. Designed in 1992, existing systems in AGU’s headquarters were reaching the end of their useful life. AGU bravely elevated what could have been an ordinary recapitalization project into an elegant reflection of their organizational mission. This session will introduce the project and then invite participants to explore the challenges of net-positive energy retrofits through the lens of AGU and their own projects. Following this exploration, the team will provide insight from several team-member perspectives.
