Woodlands Stewardship Education Center Receives AIA Baltimore Design Award Honorable Mention

The Woodlands Stewardship Education Center has been recognized with an AIA Baltimore Excellence in Design Award Honorable Mention in the Cultural/Institutional category.

Located within Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Fairfax County, Virginia, the Center serves as an introduction to the region’s natural and cultural resources, inspiring visitors to become active stewards of the environment. The facility seamlessly integrates with the surrounding woodland landscape through thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor learning, exhibition, and gathering spaces that encourage exploration and connection with nature.

Driven by the ambitious goals of the Living Building Challenge, the project demonstrates a commitment to environmental responsibility through sustainable materials, energy systems, and operations. From its wraparound porch overlooking the surrounding forest to its immersive educational experiences, the Center exemplifies how architecture can strengthen the relationship between people and the natural world.

Congratulations to Quinn Evans, the Fairfax County Park Authority, and the entire project team on this recognition for design excellence.
