Oregon Supreme Court Rehabilitation Featured on ARCAT Podcast

May 27, 2026

The Oregon Supreme Court Interior Modernization and Seismic Retrofit was recently featured on the ARCAT podcast, with Andrew Smith, AIA, APT RP of Hennebery Eddy Architects discussing the design approach behind this landmark project.

Originally constructed in 1914, the courthouse is the oldest building on Oregon’s Capitol Mall and a defining civic resource. The rehabilitation balances preservation with resilience, including a base isolation system designed to allow the building to remain stable during a major seismic event while protecting historic materials and architectural features.

Strategic system upgrades and material reuse enhanced building performance while maintaining its character resulting in a 59% reduction in predicted energy use intensity (pEUI) and LEED Gold certification. Together, these improvements ensure the building can safely and efficiently serve future generations.
